Spring Rhythm
Mohul Sen, Class IV, 9 years, Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata
These paintings were done by Mohul between 2017 and 2019. When asked why does he paint, he replied " This is what I do best. I can't sing or dance properly". Later as an afterthought, he added - he also enjoys doing them. Mohul developed a keen interest in dinosaurs and different kinds of transport, especially trucks, loaders, from age 5 onwards. The Maiasaura and the construction site with dumper, cement churner, garbage truck are a result of that. The flowers are always for his mother because he knows she loves them. The watercolors have an interesting context too. The one with flying leaves is his take on Autumn, after a poem he read as part of his class text and his visit to Shantiniketan and the dancing peacock in monsoon. There are three inspired by famous artworks - his painting of South City Towers in Kolkata after seeing Van Gogh's Starry Nights, a Sunset inspired by Rabindranath Tagore painting, and the one with very bright colors and flying birds after a workshop for kids on German Artist Emil Nolde at the Max Mueller Bhavan/Goethe Institute, Kolkata.
